[ Under-Reported ] : New Mac Mini has two Video Ports

Did anyone notice that the quiet update to the mac-mini got two video ports? Apparently it supports two displays and can operate them independently.

” Expand your experience.

There’s nothing quite like seeing your photos and movies on a big, beautiful display. Unless, of course, you add a second. Mac mini comes with both mini-DVI and Mini DisplayPort output ports, so you can connect up to two displays. Choose the beautiful, widescreen Apple LED Cinema Display or displays available from many third parties. ”

Grab 4 of these, and run 6 screens. Though your mac mini will probably get mad / hot / run slow or blow up. 1st person to try it gets the nugget.

[ mac ] : iMac G5 rev. A/B Loud Fan Issues [solved]

The best thing to do for this issue is re-thermalize the CPU. Aka, put new thermal compound between the CPU and the Heat Sink. This requires about an 1-2 hours of work as the motherboard has to come out of the machine, so you can remove the heatsink screws on the underside.

What you’ll need:

• iMac G5 Disassembly.

• From that point you’ll need some thermal paste.

[win] AVG Free, Service Pack 3 XP, Error with License

Issue with AVG 7.5, 8.0, 8.5 even on a fresh install of windows, upgrading to SP3 has license activation problems:

Here the issue is with AVG Free deactivating during an XP Sp3 upgrade. And upon reinstallation, the computer has issues ever fixing the problem. No matter what you do, the program will always return errors.

1 ] Trying to delete all the files manually proves no fruit. C:\Program Files\AVG is a hard little twerp to get rid of. CTRL-ATL-DEL should bring up the Process Montior, and anything with AVG in the process name also does not want to quit. Many forums on the internet seem to have this problem with no solution.

2 ] A good thing to do first is run the uninstaller that comes up when you start up. (Don’t quit Spybot, Ad-Aware..this can lead to problems[in the tray next to clock])

3 ] Then what you want to do is uninstall [START > CONTROL PANEL > ADD/REMOVE APPLICATIONS] Ad-Aware, Spybot Search&Destroy, or any other spyware/virus apps. Ones specifically dedicated to controlling files on your operating system like those are known to cause problems here. Personally, AVG needs to get on the bandwagon with better licensing, and installer application which is definitely crippled (though the software is grande)

4 ] Restart your computer.

5 ] Check for any processes related to those applications you just uninstalled. [CTRL-ALT-DELETE key sequence, then choose PROCESSES tab] and kill/end any that you see.

6 ] Again, uninstall AVG, and choose to remove user settings and anything in the vault. Restart/Uninstall until you get a successful uninstall with no errors. (more than 3 times, and there is something else wrong with your system.)

7 ] Upon successful uninstall, reinstall AVG [ download : AVG Free 8.5 http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?tag=mncol ] and several times with restarts if needed.
